Movie Reviews

We still have three more days left of the break-- go to the theater if you can!

I AM LEGEND-- great special effects, particularly if you want to see what happens if there's no traffic on a major roadway for, let's say, three years. Will Smith is the only person in the movie for most of the movie. His acting is fine, storyline is based on a decades-old novel of the same name: this movie has actually already been made twice. Basic storyline is that a disease wipes out all of humanity and Will Smith's character is the "only living boy in New York" to quote a Paul Simon song (one of my favorite songs in the world). He plays a scientist and he's immune to the disease (obviously). He still maintains a laboratory and spends his days searching for the cure to the disease. Hated the ending.

ENCHANTED-- I thought this was a great movie and not just because a talking chipmunk was one of the main characters. A fairytale princess ends up in New York City via a manhole cover, where she roams the streets searching for Prince Charming. PC's mom doesn't like the princess, sends her to NYC so he can't find her, he comes after her; the usual fairytale drama. The songs are great. The best parts of the movie involve the princess trying to adapt to a 21st-century world. We laughed the whole time. PC's mother's costume in the last scene of the movie RULES.

JUNO-- I saw this before we went on break and LOVED IT. If you've seen Superbad or if you watch Arrested Development, you're already familiar with Michael Cera-- a fabulous young actor (I think he's 18). He plays the boyfriend of a girl named Juno. Juno gets pregnant and the movie tells the story of how Juno and her family deal with the situation. This movie could have taken a thousand wrong turns; it took NONE of them. The storyline is not predictable and it isn't formulaic. The characters are smart and make smart decisions. See it.
