BACK to SCHOOL at LAST!

The paddle next to my diplomas is non-functioning: the first principal I worked for gave me that when he retired. He also signed it!
I've collected Hello Kitty since I was a little girl. I have no idea what started the obsession! Trivia: every HK in my room has been given to me by a student!
I hate desks. I love tables because I can easily talk to groups of kids at one time, and I can sit with them and be a part of whatever they are doing. Tables also make it easier for the kids to work together-- which we do a lot of!

I hope you are as excited about this year as I am!

I included the pictures of my classroom because I think it is important for anyone who's interested to be able to see where Spanish happens.

A little about me: I'm starting my ninth year as a Spanish teacher. Before coming to Allen, I taught in Celeste-- a 1A school east of the metroplex. Pat Hardage recruited me to work at Lowery and I've never regretted it. In addition to teaching Spanish, I've also taught Speech, Music History, and a really antiquated form of business math called Record Keeping. I've coached UIL speaking events, been a senior class sponsor... teaching has never been boring, that's for sure. The thing I love about teaching is knowing my students.Kids I've taught who have already finished college, married and have their own kids still email and call me to keep me updated about their lives!

I've been married for 12 years to Phillip. He owns a construction company and builds houses. We met in marching band in college. Our nutso hobby is collecting records. We have over 4000 of them.

Something new this year for me is Pre-AP. I've always wanted to teach it and now I am. The thing I am most excited about is that I'll be able to teach literature again-- the academic (regular) Spanish curriculum doesn't always leave time for it.

One of the great things about learning a language is that there are so many WAYS to learn it. Writing, reading, listening, speaking, singing, moving around, coloring, crafting... DOING. No time to be bored; we're too busy!

This blog will function as a journal-- weekly lesson plans will be posted here, and I will also write candidly about what's going on in class. You can leave comments for me here or email me-- I love feedback.

06-07 will be a great year! Anything else is cosmically unacceptable!
