August 14-18, 2006

The first week of school was incredible. All of the teachers at Lowery are in agreement: this group of kids is AWESOME. We have all had such a great experience with them the past 5 days and can't wait to see how the year unfolds.

We spent last week gasping for breath under the mountain of back-to-school paperwork that all of us were drowning in. We also made it through another mountain... my CLASS RULES! And then we spent Thursday and Friday working on the Spanish alphabet.

This week: Monday we will practice the alphabet and learn the colors. Every class except 2nd has their alphabet test on Tuesday. 2nd period will have theirs on Wednesday because of the COGAT exam. After the alphabet test, we will learn the names of Spanish-speaking countries and their capitals. This will probably take up class time through Thursday with a map to color, memorization to be done, and games (of course) to play. After that, we will be ready to start in the textbook!

Back to the COGAT-- this is a standardized aptitude test that all freshmen are taking next week. The test will help us understand each kid's abilities better, and we can use that information to help them make decisions about the kinds of classes they are taking.

Hope to take some PICTURES this week of everyone... check back in a few days!
